Parents and EdTech

I was among the luckiest of people during the pandemic. My mother. a 30 year retired veteran teacher, lived with us, and she took care of the distance learning.

There are also families and students who have found a style of learning that perfectly suits them, and I truly hope for these families, it continues going forward. For a lot of families, this was overwhelming and too much. They can’t wait for their kids to get back to good old fashioned pencil and paper, but the reality is the technology that has been introduced during the pandemic will be sticking around. As parents/guardians, you want to make sure that you can navigate it and be able to support your children with their work. In the past, you could easily check the assignment and check the paper the night before it was due. Now you have a check mark that says turned in the on the assignment, and you assume it’s done. Spoiler, it might not be. You may also hear the modern the dog ate my homework with, “I don’t know what happened. It must have just deleted it in Google.” I will admit, there are errors and bugs in things that can cause problems, but they are actually very rare, and typically are caused by a user error. I will show you the student view on each program, and how you can check your student’s work. I wall also share some of the trickier methods kids may use to mislead their parents.
